Visit any book store or go to Amazon.com and you will find a glut of guide books about Disney World. There are also thousands of web sites all dedicated to Disney.

Disney World is not a place you should visit without a little forward planning. A few months before we were due to visit for the first time a colleague of my husband returned with stories of heat, long lines and crying children. It nearly had us heading for the hills. Undaunted I trotted along to my favorite book store and spent a small fortune on guide books.

We were due to visit at a very busy time of year but thanks to the excellent touring plans we were able to ride all the rides and see all the shows without spending hours standing in line. I remember one morning in particular. We were leaving Magic kingdom about 11.30 am after having ridden everything . We were heading back to our hotel for a swim. We watched as the boat approached from the parking lot - it was groaning with people - hundreds of people were only just arriving. We congratulated ourselves for following the book's advise to "get there early"
